English Muffin.

For the love of a cat.

Muffin died yesterday. We buried her under her favorite tree in the yard. And last night it rained for the first time in 5 months. Soft, heavy, cleansing rain.

I miss her, and probably always will. I loved her from the first minute I saw her. She was our kitty from England, our English Muffin.

I never felt more like a grown-up than I did yesterday at the vet. I've never had to make such a choice, cried so much. I know she had a wonderful kitty life, and I'm so glad we shared it with her.

Bye bye my sweet Muffin.

What a lovely photograph to commemorate her life with. After my father lost a very special dog, he planted a tree (a dogwood) and put a little engraved tag under the tree as a memorial to the dog after he buried his ashes under the tree. The tree has done so well and we like to think that dad's best pal is watching over it. I'm betting Muffin will be watching over your yard, too.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. She was a lucky cat to have you in her live and I know there's an extra star in the heavens this week.

Losing a beloved cat is so hard. And having to make the decision to put an end to further suffering is extra hard. I've had to do that a few times in my adult life, and it's just wrenching. As you said, really makes you feel like an adult. The pain will fade in time. Really. And you will love other cats again in your life.

I'm so sorry that you had to loose your dear kitty. It's always so hard to loose a pet. Putting her under her favourite tree was a beautiful choice.

Thanks for the comment on my little Miles. So sorry that you have to miss your sweet Muffin too.
I cried so much today that my whole face hurts..
They did have a great life outdoors, didn't they? And great moms who were crazy about them. :)

You'll be in my thoughts this week too,
MJ

One of our goats died in January in very sad circumstances and some kind person, I have no idea who as there was no link to a blog, left this poem in my comments. It's based on a Norse legend and was written in 1998 by Steve & Diane Bodofsky. It made me cry my heart out, but it helped. I hope it helps you too, at such a sad time. Losing a pet is always so sad.

Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together

Gosh I haven't read that for a while, and it made me cry all over again.

Take care.

Sarah,

Oh I love her sweet face! Thank you for your kind words about Miss Emily. Our hearts will heal but a little piece of them will always belong to our kitties.

hugs,
